About22

THIS ONLY is a project that celebrates the transnational and the third culture. The project's journey will commence by exploring the layered worlds and cultures existing in South Asia and as those cultures have traveled and interacted around the world.

The word “Only” is inspired by a particular usage of English in South Asia to ephasize a statement, but through coming from a particular place the name demonstrates how something seemingly “from there” can become part of “here”.

Through the brands products and projects seeks to break stereotypes and introduce nuance, depth, and humor. While its applications may be diverse, THIS ONLY possesses a unique identity and attitude that brings in stories, history, nostalgia, experiences and feeling. The brand will launch through exclusive limited edition products that are not only aesthetically provocative, but communicate a story.

About *Pardon My Hindi

*Pardon My Hindi is an artist currently living and working in San Francisco. His practice starts with collecting ephemera from various times and environments building upon a theme, which primarily relate to identity, history and popular culture. The duality is consistently seen through his work, which varies in medium, including Printmaking, Collage, Photography, Found Object. He was raised in an independent motel on a New Jersey freeway with his parents, sister and rotating extended family. His work has been on view in various institutions, including The Asian Art Museum (SF), The Whitney Museum and the Smithsonian, as well as collaborations with Levi Strauss & Co., Vijay Iyer, Rudresh Mahanthappa, Ashim Ahluwalia, Das Racist, and Himanshu Suri.

What is the medium "Found Object" or "The Ready-Made?"

"Found Object" or "The Ready-Made" originates from the French objet trouvé, describing art created from undisguised, but often modified, objects or products that are not normally considered art, often because they already have a non-art function. Pablo Picasso first publicly utilized the idea when he pasted a printed image of chair caning onto his painting titled Still Life with Chair Caning (1912). Marcel Duchamp is thought to have perfected the concept several years later when he made a series of ready-mades, consisting of completely unaltered everyday objects selected by Duchamp and designated as art.
